Mississippi Rising. On hold

Well, the daily progress came to a screeching halt last Friday when the Mississippi River swelled just above non-risky levels. The crew was a little less than a day away from having the site ready for concrete pour when the word came from the Levee Police. Not only did they need to stop working on the site prep, but they had to refill all of the area that they had excavated.

Scary stuff.

So, looks like it will be several weeks before the river lowers back to workable height... maybe even into July. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

Foundation framing continues

It looks like the framing for the foundation is more than halfway complete. At this point you can really see where the rooms, garage, patio and yard will be. We are a couple days behind schedule because of the extra work needed to deal with the remaining oak tree roots throughout the lot. Hopefully the framing crew is able to finish tomorrow since the concrete is coming sometime Thursday. Our contractor is committed to having the house framing starting on Monday, so it will sure be a busy couple of days!

Pilings done... Foundation forms

Pilings wrapped up last week and they got to work on the framing for the foundation. The exciting part of this stage is that it is really the first time that you can tell exactly where the house will be. We pulled up into our "driveway" (or at least where we can tell it will be) for the first time.

This will fun to watch over the next couple of weeks!
